Idaho City is located about 36 miles northeast of Boise and has a population of approximately 460 people.
The town has a very rich history--founded during the Boise Basin gold rush of 1862. Traveling down the main street, visitors can walk on planked boardwalks, visit the historic jail, walk through the Pioneer Cemetery, and take a trip to the Boise Basin Museum to see the collection of gold rush relics.
Idaho City is surrounded by the Boise National Forest, which provides many outdoor activities--fishing, hiking, swimming and more. Winter activities include skiing on the 15 cross-country trails and snowmobiling on the 150-plus miles of forest-service roads.
