Garden City has a unique location, sitting on both sides of the Boise River, almost completely surrounded by Boise and bordered by Eagle. The city was named for the gardens raised by Chinese immigrants, and Chinden Boulevard, the city’s main street, is a combination of the word “China” and “garden.”
Eagle Island State Park recreation area is located just a few miles west of Garden City. It’s accessible by the Boise River Greenbelt, which traverses the entire length of the city between Boise and Eagle. Garden City is also home to the VAC, or Visual Arts Collective, which is a concert and performance venue, an art gallery and a bar.
The annual Western Idaho Fair is held every August at the Western Idaho Fairground and Expo in Garden City. There is also the Hawks Memorial Stadium, home of the Boise Hawks, a minor-league baseball team.
